Problem Note 33296: Connection refused to host message generated at log on in SAS® Enterprise Miner™ java client
When SAS® Analytics Platform is run as a Windows service, the SAS Enterprise Miner java client might fail to log on, generating the error:
com.sas.apps.session.NetworkException: java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection
refused to host: 10.20.30.200; nested exception is:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
[...]
Caused by: java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: 10.20.30.200;
Log on is successful when the SAS Analytics Platform is started manually, or when connecting via Personal Workstation mode.
The problem occurs because the invocation command used when starting SAS Analytics Platform as a Windows service is missing the option:
-Dap.rmi.socket.factory=com.sas.apps.session.server.APSocketFactoryRMI
This option is NOT missing from the launch command used when starting SAS Analytics Platform manually.
To correct the problem:
- Back up the wrapper.conf file located in [AnalyticsPlatform_HomeDirectory]\conf folder. In a typical installation, the fully qualified filename is: C\Program Files\SAS\SASAPCore\conf\wrapper.conf.
- Open wrapper.conf for editing.
- Add the above option line as an additional Java parameter to the bottom of the section titled "Java Additional Parameters". The new line is indicated in bold in this sample:
# Java Additional Parameters
#wrapper.java.additional.1=
# rjc ------ vm options ---------------------
wrapper.java.additional.1=-Djava.rmi.server.RMIClassLoaderSpi=com.sas.apps.session.server.AppServerClassLoaderSpi
wrapper.java.additional.2=-Djava.security.auth.policy=..\conf\auth.policy
wrapper.java.additional.3=-Djava.security.auth.login.config=..\conf\login.config
wrapper.java.additional.4=-Dap.deployment.config=..\conf\server.config
wrapper.java.additional.5=-Dcache.auth.policy=true
wrapper.java.additional.6=-Dap.home=..
wrapper.java.additional.7=-Djava.system.class.loader=com.sas.app.AppClassLoader
wrapper.java.additional.8=-Dsas.app.class.dirs=../lib;../ext
wrapper.java.additional.9=-Dap.rmi.socket.factory=com.sas.apps.session.server.APSocketFactoryRMI
